Head of Research – Foundr
Dan Ring is the Head of Research at Foundry, where he’s been working as a research engineer since 2010. worked as a research engineer for The Foundry since 2010. Dan is in charge of defining the vision and direction for Research at Foundry and management of the products and Initiatives within Foundry’s Research team, including fostering and building relationships with universities to facilitate knowledge transfer, develop funded projects, fellowships and internships around areas of shared interest.
Dan’s work has been recognised in several publications and blogs, including 3D World, Digital Arts, and fxguide. His work on planar tracking was nominated for a Scientific & Technical (SciTech) Academy Award. Prior to VFX, Dan was a member of the Sigmedia Research group in Trinity College Dublin and received his PhD in image processing in 2008. During that time his research focused on solving matting problems, sparse feature tracking and automatic parsing and analysis of sports and medical footage.
